Poland charges fifth suspect in US$94M crypto probe

Polish prosecutors have charged a fifth suspect in the Zondacrypto investigation over alleged fraud and other offences.
The case involves estimated customer losses of at least 350 million zlotys, or US$94 million.
The latest suspect is Roman Ż., a former business partner of BitBay founder Sylwester Suszek.
Prosecutors have charged Roman Ż. with two offences, including fraud, while the second allegation has not been made public.
His lawyer said Roman Ż. denies the charges, while prosecutors plan to seek pretrial detention as the investigation continues.
Zondacrypto stopped trading in April after customers reported frozen or delayed withdrawals, following payment delays and suspended Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) deposits.
The investigation has received more than 3,600 complaints and was merged with the inquiry into Suszek’s 2022 disappearance in August.
