Peirce prepares to leave SEC amid crypto rulemaking
- SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is preparing to leave the agency on October 2.
- Her departure follows nearly a decade of work on digital asset regulation.
- Peirce highlighted unfinished crypto rules, developer protections and financial privacy concerns.
Hester Peirce is set to leave the SEC on October 2, according to an exclusive interview with The Block.
She departs after nearly a decade, working across three SEC chairmanships and two presidential administrations.
“There’s no good time to leave,” SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said in a statement.
Comprehensive crypto legislation has stalled in the Senate as the SEC advances its own rulemaking.
“I think just keep seeking public input,” Peirce said.
She highlighted developer protections, financial privacy and intermediary rules as areas needing further work.
Peirce also pointed to the five-year innovation exemption and plans for permanent rules.
Peirce’s departure leaves the SEC’s crypto rulemaking with its remaining commissioners.
