Patrick Witt exits White House crypto role
- Patrick Witt has left his role leading the White House Crypto Council.
- Witt helped advance US digital asset policy, including the GENIUS Act and negotiations over the CLARITY Act.
- His departure leaves questions about future leadership as US crypto market-structure legislation remains unresolved.
Patrick Witt has left his role as executive director of the White House Crypto Council, following a year of work on US digital asset policy.
Witt’s responsibilities included advancing the administration’s goal of making the United States a global centre for cryptocurrency innovation.
His public statement thanked President Donald Trump, adviser David Sacks and colleagues across the administration for their support.
Witt also credited regulators and lawmakers for advancing crypto policy through the GENIUS Act and ongoing work on the CLARITY Act.
The GENIUS Act became law, while the CLARITY Act’s progress has faced disputes over stablecoin rewards, ethics and other provisions.
Witt previously held roles at the Department of War, including acting director of the Office of Strategic Capital, before leading the White House crypto policy effort.
He said he expected to share more about his next steps and expressed plans to continue supporting American innovation in the private sector.
The White House has not publicly named a successor, leaving uncertainty over who will lead its day-to-day engagement on crypto legislation.
