  • MoneyGram has become a validator on the Solana blockchain and is now staking Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) tokens while processing network transactions.
  • The move expands the remittance firm's direct involvement in blockchain infrastructure as stablecoin use grows across global payments.
  • MoneyGram said it is integrating blockchain technology across treasury, payments and product operations following more than five years of digital asset adoption.

MoneyGram has become a validator on the Solana blockchain, allowing the remittance company to stake Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) tokens and help secure and process transactions on the network.

The development expands MoneyGram’s blockchain activities following its May launch of MGUSD on the Stellar network and comes as remittance firms increasingly adopt stablecoins for cross-border payments.

MoneyGram said it now uses blockchain infrastructure and stablecoins across its treasury, product development and payments operations after more than five years of integrating digital assets into its business.

The company also joined the Solana Developer Platform and said its services reach more than 60 million customers through nearly 500,000 retail locations worldwide.

The validator initiative adds a new infrastructure role to MoneyGram’s digital asset strategy as blockchain-based settlement gains traction across the payments industry, and following the announcement the MoneyGram share price was unavailable.

In May, Western Union launched its USDPT stablecoin on Solana and said the product debuted in Bolivia and the Philippines with plans to expand to more than 40 countries in 2026.

The broader trend extends beyond remittances, with Bitso reporting an 81% year-on-year increase in stablecoin transaction volumes among institutional clients in the first half of 2026, while Flutterwave recently announced plans to integrate Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and XRP Ledger into its payments network.

At the time of reporting, Solana price was $71.79.
