MoneyGram brings Solana crypto cash to 170 nations

  • MoneyGram has connected its Ramps service to the Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) blockchain, going live on 1 August 2026 and giving users of Solana-based wallets, applications, and exchanges a single API connection to MoneyGram's global cash network.
  • The service enables users holding USD Coin on Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) to convert stablecoins into local currency and collect cash at a MoneyGram location in more than 170 countries and territories, or deposit cash and receive stablecoins directly into their wallet from over 25 nations.
  • MoneyGram Ramps is embedded within Solana's Developer Platform payments module, allowing developers building on Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) to offer fiat on-ramps and off-ramps through a single integration without requiring a separate payment processor or additional compliance layers.

The service also supports MoneyGram's own MGUSD stablecoin, a US dollar-backed token launched on the Stellar blockchain around 2 June 2026, reflecting a multi-chain strategy that positions MGUSD and USDC as the core transaction rails across both Stellar and Solana (CRYPTO:SOL).

MoneyGram became an active validator on the Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) network on 22 June 2026, joining institutional participants including Mastercard and Western Union on the Solana Developer Platform — a level of network commitment that goes significantly beyond a standard corporate partnership.

Running a validator node means MoneyGram is actively helping to secure the Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) network and process transactions, reflecting a strategic infrastructure role rather than a passive business arrangement.

MoneyGram's Stellar relationship predates the Solana integration by several years, having partnered with Stellar and payments firm Tempo to enable USDC-based cross-border transfers, which served as the operational blueprint for the Solana expansion.

For the stablecoin market, the integration creates a new distribution channel, giving USDC on Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) a direct cash-out option across more countries than most traditional banks operate in.

Western Union is also active on the Solana Developer Platform, but MoneyGram's competitive advantage is its physical cash pickup network in 170 countries — an infrastructure footprint that no fintech startup can replicate at short notice.

For developers building financial applications on Solana (CRYPTO:SOL), the embedded Ramps API removes one of the most significant friction points in user acquisition by enabling a direct cash-to-stablecoin conversion pathway through a single integration point.

At the time of reporting, Solana price was $76.07.
