Japan’s Financial Services Agency will launch its Crypto Assets and Stablecoins Division on August 7, centralising digital-asset supervision.
Crypto oversight previously sat across smaller offices, including the Crypto, Blockchain and Innovation Office and Crypto Monitoring Office.
The new division will contain three specialist offices covering crypto monitoring, innovation promotion and digital payment planning.
The FSA said the restructure addresses financial digitalisation and strengthens its ability to supervise institutions as technology develops.
Japan also plans to reclassify crypto assets under financial market rules, according to Cryptopolitan.
Cryptopolitan reported that proposed tax changes would reduce Japan’s maximum crypto tax from 55% to 20% from January 2028.
Cryptopolitan also reported that the regulatory changes could support possible spot Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) ETFs as early as 2027.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $64,555.22.
