  • Irish authorities seized another 500 Bitcoin, bringing total recoveries from the Clifton Collins case to 1,500 BTC.
  • The recovery was made with assistance from Europol's European Cybercrime Centre, although authorities have not disclosed how the wallet was accessed.
  • Blockchain data indicates about 4,500 Bitcoin linked to the case remain in dormant wallets under observation.

Irish authorities recovered another 500 Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) linked to convicted drug trafficker Clifton Collins, increasing the total seized from wallets connected to the case to 1,500 BTC with support from Europol's European Cybercrime Centre.

The latest seizure follows earlier recoveries of 500 BTC in March and May, despite the Bitcoin previously being considered inaccessible after Collins' private keys were reportedly believed to have been lost.

The Criminal Assets Bureau said, “The latest seizure was made with support from Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre.”

The Criminal Assets Bureau said the recovered Bitcoin represented proceeds of crime, while blockchain analytics platform Arkham identified roughly 4,500 BTC remaining in dormant wallets linked to the case, and authorities have not explained how investigators accessed the latest wallet.

The latest recovery highlights continued progress in one of Ireland's largest cryptocurrency asset seizure cases, while Clifton Collins is not publicly traded and no share price applies.

According to previous court reporting, Collins acquired more than 6,000 BTC in 2011 and 2012 using proceeds from cannabis trafficking before distributing the holdings across 12 wallets containing 500 BTC each, with the private keys reportedly stored inside the cap of a fishing rod case that later disappeared.

The case has become a prominent example of how law enforcement agencies are combining blockchain analytics, cybercrime expertise and legal asset seizure powers to recover cryptocurrency that was previously believed to be permanently inaccessible.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $61,626.06.
