
India issues AML notices to 15 crypto platforms
- India has issued non-compliance notices to 15 offshore virtual digital asset service providers.
- The Financial Intelligence Unit-India has also ordered takedown action against their apps and URLs.
- The rules apply to crypto platforms serving India regardless of where they are physically based.
India has issued anti-money laundering notices to 15 offshore virtual digital asset service providers operating in the country.
The Financial Intelligence Unit-India issued the notices under Section 13 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The affected platforms include Weex, Blofin, Bitunix, DigiFinex, Toobit, XT.com, WOO X, Pionex and WhiteBIT.
ChangeNOW, SimpleSwap, FixedFloat and Guardarian are also among the platforms named in the enforcement action.
FIU-IND has also issued notices seeking takedowns of the platforms’ apps and URLs for public access in India.
India brought crypto service providers under its anti-money laundering framework in March 2023, covering exchanges, transfers and custody services.
The rules are activity-based, meaning offshore platforms serving Indian users must register with FIU-IND and meet reporting and record-keeping requirements.
