Share
  • A home miner earned about US$200,000 after mining a Bitcoin block with a Bitaxe device.
  • The device cost about US$150 and ran for only eight hours before finding the block.
  • The win shows that solo mining is still possible, although the odds remain extremely low.

A home miner using a US$150 Bitaxe device mined a Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) block and earned about US$200,000.

The miner found block 957382 after running the device for about eight hours through Public Pool.

The miner received the full reward of 3.1382 BTC because no one else shared the mining rewards.

Experts estimate a 1 TH/s miner could wait more than 16,000 years to find a block on average.

The Bitaxe is a small open-source Bitcoin miner that usually costs between US$60 and US$150.

The win highlights how solo Bitcoin mining works like a lottery, with very low odds but occasional big payouts.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $62,782.58.
