  • GLBrain, a European social network that runs on a blockchain, will be presented by its CEO and CFO on August 24 at the BLOCKCHANCE Conference in Hamburg, which runs August 24–25, 2018.
  • The company says users keep ownership of all their content, and their data is not analysed by algorithms or marketed.
  • The platform has 140,000 registered users and is available in 224 countries and 106 languages.

GLBrain, a social network described as Europe's answer to Facebook and to Mark Zuckerberg's handling of user data, will be showcased at the BLOCKCHANCE Conference Hamburg 2018.

CEO Dr. Wolfgang Pinegger and CFO Alfred Jost will present it as a European alternative to Facebook, Twitter and similar platforms at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 24.

The network runs on a blockchain rather than the central servers used by conventional social networks, which the company states, makes it more comprehensive and more secure. Around 140,000 users have already registered.

The main difference from existing networks is data ownership.

Users own everything they post, and their data is not analysed by algorithms or marketed. They decide who can see their content and when, and they can change or permanently delete it at any time.

"I wanted to create a technical concept that simply makes the unspeakable misuse of our data impossible," said GLBrain CEO Dr. Wolfgang Pinegger.

The technology comes from GLBrain's partner, Skycoin Project, which provides third-generation blockchain technology, whuch the company says gives maximum protection against hacking and data falsification.

The Fiber blockchain technology runs quietly in the background, so users won't notice it in everyday use. And since users remain the owners of their data, GLBrain says the platform strictly complies with European and international data protection rules.

Beyond the familiar social network tools for sharing content, GLBrain also lets users publish an online newspaper and manage professional communities.

Users can also trade on GLMall, a decentralised marketplace that currently lists products, services, jobs and real estate.

The company believes GLMall could become Europe's answer to Amazon and eBay, with larger companies and associations able to customise their GLBrain environment to fit their workflows.

"GLBrain is a comprehensive platform that covers all the needs of daily life, similar to Facebook, only better," said GLBrain CFO Alfred Jost.

He further noted that people are beginning to understand just how powerfully blockchain technology can solve the problems of this time.

The BLOCKCHANCE Conference Hamburg 2018 runs on August 24 and 25 at the MLOVE Future City Campus in HafenCity, organised by SKYFI and MLOVE.

The event is a forum for sharing knowledge and experience on developments in blockchain and cryptocurrency technology.
