Federal authorities said they disrupted an alleged plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, with court filings alleging five men planned to use explosive-laden drones and firearms against attendees and high-value targets.

The investigation began after a family member alerted law enforcement to concerns about one suspect's behaviour, firearms purchases and online activity, leading to a multi-state operation before the event took place.

“On June 10, FBI and our law enforcement partners became aware of a potential threat to the UFC America 250 event in Washington, D.C. involving individuals outside of the National Capital Region,” said FBI Director Kash Patel.

According to court documents, investigators recovered discussions related to drone launch sites, sniper positions, escape routes and safe houses, while prosecutors allege the group intended to use explosive devices to trigger crowd evacuations before conducting shootings.

The UFC Freedom 250 event proceeded as scheduled and federal officials said it was never at risk due to the law enforcement response; following the announcement there was no market impact associated with the investigation.

The event drew attendees including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, government officials and business leaders, while sponsorships and promotions involved several cryptocurrency companies including Crypto.com, World Liberty Financial, Exodus and Polymarket.

Court filings also allege the suspects discussed issues including government corruption, the Jeffrey Epstein files and artificial intelligence data centres, while authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
