Crypto-backed political action committee Fairshake has spent roughly $8.6 million on Illinois congressional races as the United States prepares for the 2026 midterm elections.

Federal Election Commission filings show the PAC reported a $16,000 media buy opposing Illinois state representative La Shawn Ford’s congressional bid, adding to about $1.8 million already spent on the race ahead of the state’s March 17 primary.

Fairshake has publicly said it will “oppose anti-crypto politicians and support pro-crypto leaders” during the 2026 election cycle.

Additional filings revealed the committee spent more than $5.5 million opposing Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, who is running as a Democratic candidate for the US Senate.

Associated groups tied to Fairshake also reported about $84,000 supporting Nikki Budzinski in a House race and roughly $90,000 backing Robin Kelly’s Senate campaign in Illinois.

The crypto-funded PAC reported a $193 million war chest as of January and typically deploys funds through advertising campaigns supporting or opposing candidates rather than direct campaign donations.

The group has also begun spending in early primary races, including $1.5 million through affiliated organisation Protect Progress opposing Texas Representative Al Green ahead of a primary contest that will head to a runoff in May.
