Ethereum Foundation flags new 21,000-gas changes
- Ethereum developers warned some wallets, indexers and gas estimators may break under Glamsterdam’s new gas model.
- A normal ETH transfer will remain at 21,000 gas, but new-account transfers will face extra state-gas costs.
- Developers are urged to test their tools on Plataberget before wider testnet and mainnet deployments.
Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) developers warned some wallets, indexers and gas estimators may break under Glamsterdam’s new gas model.
The warning comes as Glamsterdam moves through testing, with Plataberget launching on August 13.
The Ethereum Foundation’s Protocol DevOps team said tools using hardcoded maximum gas limits “will break” and need updates.
EIP-8037 will add a separate state-gas charge for operations that create new blockchain state.
A standard ETH transfer to an existing account will still cost 21,000 gas under the proposed changes.
Transfers to new accounts will face an additional state-gas charge, while developers must update outdated fee assumptions.
Glamsterdam also includes proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists and higher contract and code-size limits.
At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $1,893.65.
