DeFiLlama delayed its mobile app launch after fake apps impersonating the platform appeared on Apple’s App Store.

The company spent months seeking the removal of one malicious app before Apple took action, according to its founder.

“We waited ‘till all the fake apps were taken down before we launched ours to avoid any user getting scammed,” DeFiLlama founder 0xngmi said.

The founder said Apple removed one fake app within days after DeFiLlama documented a small crypto wallet being drained.

The company’s mobile launch remained delayed until the fake apps were removed, with DeFiLlama saying the move was intended to reduce scam risks.

Fake apps have previously impersonated crypto brands including Rabby wallet and Curve Finance on Apple’s App Store.

A fake Ledger Live app on Microsoft’s Store also resulted in $588,000 being stolen across 38 transactions in November 2023.
