Crypto firms seek frontier AI access
- Major crypto firms are seeking access to restricted frontier AI models as AI-assisted cyberattacks increase.
- Coinbase has secured Anthropic’s Mythos model, while Binance said it still lacks access to the technology.
- Crypto security executives support initial restrictions but want faster access for verified defenders as competing models improve.
Major crypto firms are seeking advanced AI tools to defend their systems as AI-assisted attacks become more common.
Coinbase gained access to Anthropic’s Mythos model, while Binance said it has unsuccessfully sought access through several channels.
“We need to make sure that the best models we can get are in the hands of defenders,” Solana Foundation security chief Michael Coates said.
Anthropic restricts Mythos access, while OpenAI limits its GPT-5.5-Cyber model to a smaller group conducting authorised penetration testing.
Binance security chief Jimmy Su said restrictions become harder to justify as competing AI models become more capable and widely available.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) swap service Boltz halted its non-custodial bridge after reporting increased AI-assisted exploits over recent months.
Coinkite also said attackers may have used AI to identify and exploit a flaw affecting some Coldcard hardware wallets.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $63,651.67.
