  • Stablecore launched an early-access programme allowing US credit unions to test stablecoin and digital asset services.
  • The initiative includes credit unions managing approximately US$25 billion in combined assets and is supported by Circuit and Curql.
  • Participants will evaluate stablecoin payments, tokenised deposits, Bitcoin services and staking before deciding on full integration.

Stablecore has launched an early-access programme that allows participating US credit unions to test stablecoin and digital asset services, with institutions representing roughly US$25 billion in combined assets joining the initiative.

The programme was developed in partnership with Circuit, a credit union service organisation focused on research and development, and Curql, a fintech investment collective representing more than 160 credit unions.

The initiative allows participating institutions to evaluate stablecoin payments, tokenised deposits, Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) services, crypto on- and off-ramps and staking capabilities before deciding whether to integrate the products into existing banking platforms.

Stablecore said the programme builds on its efforts to provide digital asset infrastructure through existing banking systems, following its February integration into the Jack Henry Fintech Integration Network, which serves approximately 1,670 banking and credit union clients.

The launch reflects growing interest among credit unions in digital asset services, and there was no immediate market reaction following the announcement.

The initiative comes as US credit unions prepare for potential stablecoin regulation after the National Credit Union Administration proposed a licensing framework in February for payment stablecoin issuers operating through credit union subsidiaries.

The proposed regulatory framework would require stablecoin issuers connected to federally insured credit unions to obtain a licence, with further rules covering reserves, liquidity, capital and risk management expected to be developed separately.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $60,672.37.
