Coins.ph brings Bitcoin and Ethereum to 700K merchants

Coins.ph has expanded support for digital asset payments on the Philippines’ national QR Ph network, allowing users to spend Bitcoin and Ethereum at nearly 700,000 merchants nationwide.

The move follows the platform’s April integration of stablecoins USDT and USDC into the QR Ph system and marks a significant step toward bringing cryptocurrencies into everyday retail transactions.

“The true ‘Aha!’ moment for our community occurs when they realise they no longer need to manually sell their crypto to a PHP balance first,”

Said Coins.ph Chief Executive Officer, Wei Zhou.

The payment infrastructure uses real-time backend liquidations to convert cryptocurrencies into Philippine pesos at the point of sale, helping shield both merchants and consumers from crypto price volatility.

According to Coins.ph, early transaction data shows users are spending digital assets on practical purchases including groceries, school tuition fees and household appliances rather than solely on discretionary items.

Zhou said the service is proving particularly useful for crypto-native earners such as freelancers, remote workers and gig economy participants who receive income in digital assets and want to avoid multiple conversion steps before spending.

The expansion comes as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas tightens oversight of virtual asset service providers through new due diligence, monitoring and delisting requirements, while Coins.ph prepares to launch its Philippine peso-backed PHPC stablecoin pending final regulatory approval after completing testing in the central bank’s sandbox programme.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $65,839.53.
