CACEIS nears deal for MiCA-licensed Meria

Share
  • CACEIS is reportedly in talks to acquire MiCA-licensed crypto platform Meria to expand its digital asset services.
  • The reported deal would broaden CACEIS' capabilities beyond custody into crypto brokerage and staking.
  • The discussions reflect growing consolidation as Europe's MiCA rules increase regulatory and compliance requirements.

CACEIS, a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole, is reportedly negotiating to acquire Meria, a France-based cryptocurrency platform with a Markets in Crypto-Assets licence, to expand its digital asset business beyond custody services.

The reported talks come shortly after Meria received authorisation as a MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider in France, giving the company the ability to offer regulated crypto services across the European Union.

Meria, formerly known as Just Mining, serves about 150,000 users and manages approximately €350 million in assets, while the reported acquisition would give CACEIS access to Meria's brokerage and staking operations alongside its retail and institutional customer base.

The reported transaction would further expand CACEIS' regulated cryptocurrency business, while no financial terms have been disclosed and neither CACEIS nor Crédit Agricole's share price materially reacted to the reports.

CACEIS already provides regulated digital asset custody services to institutional clients and holds authorisation to offer cryptocurrency services in Europe through the MiCA framework, while its parent, Crédit Agricole, is one of France's largest banking groups.

The discussions follow the end of the European Union's MiCA transition period on July 1, as banks and financial institutions increasingly seek licensed cryptocurrency businesses to accelerate expansion into regulated digital asset markets.
