- Bybit Payments secured an electronic money institution licence from Austria’s Financial Market Authority.
- The approval creates a regulatory basis for card, merchant, open-banking and person-to-person payment services.
- Bybit said the licence could reduce its reliance on outside payment providers across Europe.
Bybit Payments secured an Austrian e-money licence, allowing it to develop regulated payment services for European users.
The services will operate through Bybit.eu alongside Bybit EU, which has held a MiCA licence since May 2025.
The licence could support person-to-person payments, merchant services, open banking and card products, according to Bybit.
Bybit said the approval could strengthen banking relationships and reduce its reliance on third-party payment infrastructure.
Bybit EU and Bybit Payments will remain separate entities with different regulatory permissions and responsibilities.
Bybit EU can provide crypto custody, exchange, placement and transfer services across eligible European Economic Area markets.
