Brazil bought US$14.68 billion worth of stablecoins during the first half of 2026, exceeding purchases of Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and reinforcing the country's preference for dollar-pegged digital assets.

Central Bank of Brazil data showed stablecoins represented about 80% of the country's crypto imports, while total digital asset purchases reached US$18.39 billion during the period.

The figures highlight growing demand for stablecoins as Brazilians use them for payments, savings and access to US dollar exposure.

The report also noted that the Brazilian government is considering new stablecoin rules, including proposals to classify them as electronic money, although industry group Abcripto has opposed the plan.

The Central Bank data suggests stablecoins remain the dominant crypto asset in Brazil despite ongoing discussions about future regulation.

The trend mirrors wider adoption across Latin America, where stablecoins have become popular for cross-border transfers and protecting savings from currency volatility.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $64,849.18.
