Bottomline has partnered with Chainlink (CRYPTO:LINK) to connect more than 600 bank customers to blockchain-based payment rails.

The partnership links Bottomline’s payment systems with public and private blockchains through Chainlink’s infrastructure.

Bottomline processes more than $16 trillion in payments annually across its platforms, according to the companies.

The integration uses Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol to connect payment instructions with blockchain networks.

Banks can continue using ISO 20022 messaging while accessing blockchain payment rails through the new integration.

The companies did not disclose how many banks will initially use the service or provide a launch date.

The partnership gives Bottomline’s banking customers a route to blockchain settlement while keeping their existing payment infrastructure in place.
