Bitget exits Japan with December 31 deadline
- Bitget will stop serving Japanese residents and begin restricting existing accounts from November 1.
- Any positions still open on December 31 will be forcibly closed by the crypto exchange.
- The exit follows several warnings from Japanese regulators over Bitget's alleged operation without registration.
Crypto exchange Bitget will leave Japan, with restrictions on existing resident accounts starting on November 1.
Bitget has already stopped new Japanese registrations, while positions remaining open on December 31 will be forcibly closed.
Users wrongly classified as Japanese residents must complete Level 2 identification, including address verification, by November 1.
Bitget said affected users will receive email instructions explaining required procedures and how to manage their assets.
Japan's Financial Services Agency warned Bitget in March 2023 and November 2024 over allegedly providing unregistered crypto services.
The Kanto Local Finance Bureau also warned Bitget-linked BTG Technology Holdings in June 2025 over alleged unregistered derivatives solicitation.
