Binance.US seeks licence for prediction markets
- Binance.US has applied to operate a regulated prediction market in the United States.
- The exchange is seeking a Designated Contract Market licence from the US regulator.
- The move would expand Binance.US beyond cryptocurrency trading if approved.
Binance.US has applied to become a Designated Contract Market (DCM) with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, allowing it to offer regulated prediction markets if approved.
The application would let Binance.US list event contracts covering real-world outcomes, placing it alongside regulated prediction market operators in the United States.
A DCM licence allows an exchange to list and trade regulated derivatives, including certain prediction market contracts, under CFTC oversight.
Prediction markets let users trade contracts based on the outcome of future events rather than buying or selling the underlying asset.
The application comes as US regulators continue to review how prediction markets should operate and what types of contracts should be permitted.
If approved, the licence would broaden Binance.US's product offering beyond cryptocurrency trading into regulated event-based markets.
