US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed renewed speculation about Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) creator Satoshi Nakamoto, saying lawmakers should focus on advancing crypto legislation instead.

His comments came as Congress continued debating the CLARITY Act, which aims to establish clearer rules for the US digital asset market.

Bessent said identifying Satoshi Nakamoto is less important than creating a regulatory framework that supports innovation while protecting investors.

The Trump administration has backed efforts to establish clearer cryptocurrency rules through legislation including the CLARITY Act.

Bitcoin was launched in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto, whose real identity remains unknown despite years of speculation.

The CLARITY Act would define how US regulators oversee digital assets if the legislation is approved by Congress.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $65,118.38.
