Worley secures BHP copper contract
- Worley has been awarded engineering and management services contracts by BHP for projects in South Australia.
- The contract award supported the Worley share price, which last traded at $10.02.
- The deals align with the company's strategic focus on rising global demand for energy transition materials like copper.
Worley (ASX:WOR) has secured engineering, procurement, and construction management contracts from BHP (ASX:BHP) for expansion projects at the Olympic Dam and Carrapateena copper operations.
The news follows growing global market demand for critical minerals driven by ongoing electrification initiatives.
"This contract reflects Worley’s continued focus on energy transition materials, such as copper, as a priority growth market," said Worley CEO Chris Ashton.
Under the terms of the agreement, services will be delivered concurrently across multiple phases, subject to a final investment decision by BHP.
The expansion work aims to increase long-term copper output across South Australian assets.
Following the announcement, the Worley share price was unchanged at $10.02.
The project team in Australia will execute the contracted works with additional global delivery support from China and Chile.
The expansion plans target potential block cave developments along with associated processing infrastructure upgrades.
