  • Whitehaven Coal (ASX:WHC) delivered 40.3 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal production for the 2026 financial year.
  • The company reported unit costs of production at $132 per tonne, reaching the low end of its guidance range.
  • The strong performance was driven by a fourth-quarter production recovery in Queensland following weather disruptions earlier in the year.

Whitehaven Coal (ASX:WHC) reached the top end of its full-year guidance by delivering 40.3 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal production for the 2026 financial year.

The strong operational finish followed a weather-impacted third quarter, with fourth-quarter production reaching 10.7 million tonnes to drive total equity sales of produced coal to 26 million tonnes.

"Whitehaven delivered a strong finish to FY26, with June quarter managed ROM production of 10.7Mt and full year ROM production of 40.3Mt," said Whitehaven Coal CEO & Managing Director Paul Flynn.

Subject to final audit, the miner expects its unit cost of production to sit at $60–$80 million.

Following the announcement, the Whitehaven Coal share price was unchanged at $7.47.

The coal producer maintained a diversified revenue stream across energy and steelmaking markets, deriving 57% of its revenue from metallurgical coal and 43% from thermal coal.

During the June quarter, the company managed its balance sheet obligations by making its second US$500 million deferred acquisition payment to BMA while completing a debt refinancing.
