Tivan (ASX:TVN) announced a breakthrough in its exploration efforts, locating high-grade copper-gold mineralisation at the Baucau and Ossu Projects in Timor-Leste.
Following an initial reconnaissance surface sampling programme, the Australian-listed company reported exceptional assay results from rock chip samples, confirming the region’s immense prospectivity.
The findings highlight grades of up to 17.4% copper and 38.1g/t gold, alongside anomalous cobalt concentrations reaching 0.45%.
The results not only validate Tivan’s initial geological assessments but also align with and exceed historic exploration records.
Previous data from the concessions had already suggested potential, with historical highs including 14.59% copper and 37.8g/t gold.
The current discovery provides the board with increased confidence as the projects advance towards formal drill targeting.
Geologically, the Baucau and Ossu Projects are situated 123km east of the capital, Dili, within the southern Outer Banda Arc.
The complex tectonic zone—where the Australian and Eurasian Plates interact—is renowned for hosting world-class mineral deposits, including Grasberg and Ok Tedi.
Despite this prestigious geological neighbourhood, Timor-Leste remains largely underexplored.
Tivan is preparing for regional-scale on-ground activities scheduled for the second quarter.
The company is currently reviewing existing geophysical datasets and planning further surveys to refine target generation.
