  • The central bank warned that inflation remains too high, driven by strong domestic spending and escalating conflicts in the Middle East.
  • RBA Governor Michele Bullock emphasised that low productivity is limiting national economic growth and sustained job creation.

The Reserve Bank of Australia kept market participants on high alert as Governor Michele Bullock addressed persistent domestic inflationary pressures and volatile global bond yields.

The central bank raised the cash rate target by 25 basis points to 4.60%.

The cautious tone follows recent market volatility, where financial institutions speculated on additional rate adjustments to combat persistent cost-of-living increases.

"I'd say not alarmed, but we are alert to it," said Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Michele Bullock.

The central bank highlighted that weak national productivity growth directly limits the economy from expanding without triggering additional inflationary spikes.

The RBA stated that managing inflation remains its primary tool to stabilise long-term household spending and corporate investment.

Australia continues to grapple with softening housing conditions alongside elevated domestic spending.

The board reiterated its commitment to returning inflation within its target range while monitoring global commodity price shocks.
