Neuren Pharmaceuticals (ASX:NEU) announced partner Acadia Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ACAD) secured a US patent allowance extending trofinetide protections.
The new patent extends exclusivity by almost five years beyond the previous use patent expiring in July 2036.
The pending patent covers the weight-banded dosing regimen for the Rett syndrome drug DAYBUE.
Neuren stated the patent is expected to issue after standard administrative steps and a paediatric exclusivity period.
The company stated the issuance is expected to prolong market protection.
Following the announcement, the Neuren Pharmaceuticals share price was down at $20.21.
The business focuses on developing orally administered therapies for serious neurological disorders with limited approved treatments.
Neuren is also advancing ercanetide for multiple neurodevelopmental disorders under US orphan drug designations.
