Encounter Resources (ASX:ENR) commenced a major reverse circulation drilling program at its Lamil Project, targeting a Havieron-style copper-gold system in Western Australia.
The exploration focus is centred on the "Elsa" prospect, a 1.5km x 1km breccia target situated just 25km from the prolific Telfer Gold-Copper Mine.
The location places the project in the heart of a world-class mineral province, heightening expectations for a substantial discovery.
The current 40-hole, 6,000-metre program is designed to test a series of semi-coincident magnetic, gravity, and induced polarisation chargeability anomalies.
The geophysical signatures suggest the presence of a large-scale mineralised system beneath the surface.
Historical drilling in the area has already provided a proof-of-concept, yielding broad zones of anomalous mineralisation, including intercepts of 33m @ 0.5g/t Au and 0.1% Cu.
The new campaign seeks to "vector toward" higher-grade core zones within the interpreted breccia pipe.
The exploration initiative is partially supported by the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme, reflecting the technical merit of the Elsa target.
Executive Chairman Will Robinson noted that the program is a critical step in evaluating the project's potential to host a tier-one deposit.
At the time of reporting, Encounter Resources' share price was $0.25.
