Dollar Declines as Trump Says Talks With Iran Underway

The dollar fell after US President Donald Trump said he would postpone strikes against Iranian energy targets, prompting energy prices to decline. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index declined 0.4% Monday in New York trading, reversing gains from earlier in the session when it touched the highest level since December. Trump cited talks about ending the conflict that were later downplayed by Iranian media, but that was enough to bring relief. Brent crude fell sharply to below $100 a barrel and US Treasuries rebounded, sending yields across the curve lower on Monday, while stocks gained. TD Securities Head of FX Strategy Jayati Bharadwaj joins Bloomberg Businessweek Daily to discuss. She speaks with Carol Massar and Tim Stenovec.

John Ternus Emerges as Tim Cook's Possible Successor

Tim Cook, who's run Apple since taking over from co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011, probably doesn't expect to be in the room himself for another 15 years. While the tech giant's CEO has given no indication of an imminent transition, he's made it clear he wants his heir to come from within the company so he can serve as a mentor. The central candidate is John Ternus, senior vice president for hardware engineering, who oversees development of the devices that generate roughly 80% of Apple's revenue. At 50, Ternus is also younger than many of the company's other senior leaders, meaning he could be in the top job longer. Bloomberg News Managing Editor for Global Consumer Tech Mark Gurman joins Bloomberg Businessweek Daily to discuss. He speaks with Carol Massar and Tim Stenovec.

Trump Says US Negotiating War Deal, as Iran Denies Talks

Iran's denial of talks with US negotiators are likely the Iranian government not wanting to 'project any sign of weakness' to their public, says Blomberg's Onur Ant.
