Australian household spending rose 0.8% in June

Australian household spending rose by 0.8% in June, boosting economic activity across the S&P/ASX 200.

The monthly increase follows a 1.2% rise in May and a 1% fall in April.

"New vehicle sales were the standout within transport this month, driving a 3% rise," said Australian Bureau of Statistics Head of Business Statistics Tom Lay.

Fuel spending volumes grew 7.8% following a 10.9% price drop, while air travel spending also recovered.

On a quarterly basis, household spending volumes increased 0.7% during the June quarter of 2026.

Annual spending volumes grew 2.4%, down slightly from the 2.7% increase recorded in March.
