Australia reports declining job mobility

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that 1 million employed people, or 7.2%, changed their employer or business in the year to February.

"While this decreasing job mobility is a continuation of a long-term trend since the 1970s, there have been some notable peaks in job mobility over this period," said Australian Bureau of Statistics Head of Labour Statistics Robert Long.

Employees maintained a higher job mobility rate of 8 per cent compared with 3% for self-employed people.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics noted that the job mobility rate for women declined by 0.8 percentage points to 7.1%, while the male rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 7.4%.

Younger workers aged 15 to 24 recorded the highest job mobility rate at 12%, contrasted with 1.2% for workers aged 65 years and over.
