Aussie Broadband finalises $115M AGL telco acquisition

Share

Aussie Broadband (ASX:ABB) has finalised its acquisition of AGL Energy’s (ASX:AGL) telecommunications division, instantly expanding its digital footprint and unlocking a long-term strategic partnership.

Under the terms of the binding share subscription agreement originally drafted in February, AGL has been formally issued $115 million in ordinary Aussie Broadband shares—amounting to roughly 22 million fully paid shares and granting the energy giant a pivotal 7% stake in the company’s issued capital.

The formal migration of AGL’s combined 350,000 NBN services and mobile connections is scheduled to commence next month, with complete network integration projected by the second quarter of 2027.

This consolidation is anticipated to yield immediate financial dividends, delivering an estimated $21 million in underlying EBITDA within the first twelve months post-migration.

Beyond immediate earnings, the synergistic tie-up grants Aussie Broadband direct marketing exposure to AGL’s extensive 4.5 million consumer base, establishing a clear commercial pathway to scale the acquired telco assets to over 500,000 connections over the medium term.

Executive leadership highlighted that this structural migration will generate material efficiency gains, substantial margin expansion, and enhanced multi-service bundling opportunities across Australia's competitive energy and telecommunications sectors.
