AML3D (ASX:AL3) announced a substantial $9.9 million order from Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries.
HII stands as the largest military shipbuilder in the United States, and this latest acquisition for four custom, large-scale ARCEMY X 6700 systems underscores a growing reliance on advanced 3D printing technology within the global defence supply chain.
The systems, which are being supplied from AML3D's newly established Technology Centre in Ohio, feature a massive 11,000kg positioner designed for heavy-capacity builds.
The custom configuration is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of ship component fabrication and replacement, providing a more efficient alternative to traditional manufacturing methods.
By integrating these systems, NNS aims to reduce lead times, minimise material waste, and improve environmental outcomes across its production lines.
Upon completion of this order, NNS will operate a fleet of six ARCEMY X systems, marking a pivotal "step change" in AML3D's commercial scale.
CEO Sean Ebert highlighted that this expansion is a direct result of the company's strategic "Scale up" initiative, which focuses on deepening ties with the US Navy's manufacturing requirements.
The four additional units are slated to be operational by the third quarter of FY27.
