Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has condemned the "politicisation" of the Bondi attacks, pushing back against Opposition criticism as his government fast-tracks measures to curb hate speech and tighten gun regulation.

Speaking after the 10th meeting of the National Security Committee, Albanese rejected calls for a royal commission—despite support from sections of the legal community—arguing none were held after the Port Arthur massacre or the Lindt Café siege, and stressing the need for national unity over political point-scoring.

He criticised remarks by Opposition Leader Sussan Ley questioning the government's response and said the focus must remain on supporting investigators, adding the federally commissioned Richardson review will be completed by April.
