Amazon launches AI chatbot for sellers, advancing automation efforts

Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) has introduced a new artificial intelligence application called Amelia, designed to aid its independent sellers in managing sales metrics, inventory, and advertising, among other tasks.

The announcement was made on Thursday as part of a broader push by Big Tech companies to increase automation through advanced technology.

According to Amazon, Amelia offers real-time responses to various inquiries, such as how to prepare for key shopping seasons and how a seller's business is performing in terms of units sold and website traffic.

The software will eventually help sellers resolve issues like delayed shipments without requiring human intervention.

During a demonstration, Amelia was shown to swiftly generate sales data for sellers and suggest strategies for major sales events, such as holiday promotions and advertising on Amazon's platform.

Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon's vice president of worldwide selling partner services, described the software as a "personalized expert" tailored to help sellers navigate the complexities of operating their business on Amazon.

Amazon, which sources more than 60% of its units from third-party sellers, hopes that automating certain aspects of customer service through Amelia will help reduce costs and streamline operations.

The company introduced the software at its annual seller conference in Seattle, where approximately 450,000 U.S.-based independent sellers gathered to learn about new tools and services.
