Blockchain-powered telecommunications firm, World Mobile, has started using a tethered, lighter-than-air balloon to offer internet and mobile services in Mozambique.
Named an aerostat, the balloon is capable of supporting high-speed connections for up to 100,000 users.
The pilot project, which began in November, is a partnership with Vodacom Mozambique.
Positioned 300 meters off the ground, the aerostat contains telecommunications equipment and offers connectivity comparable to a high-speed fibre optics connection.
