Woodside Energy Group (NYSE:WDS) has announced the achievement of first oil from the Sangomar field offshore Senegal, marking the country's first offshore oil project.

"First oil from the Sangomar field is a key milestone and reflects delivery against our strategy," said Woodside CEO Meg O'Neill.

The project is a deepwater development featuring a floating production storage and offloading facility capable of producing 100,000 barrels per day.

General Manager of PETROSEN E&P Thierno Ly expressed enthusiasm about the milestone, stating, "First oil from the Sangomar field marks a new era not only for our country’s industry and economy, but most importantly for our people."

The Sangomar Field is operated by a joint venture including Woodside, which holds an 82% stake, and Societé des Petroles du Sénégal (PETROSEN), which holds 18%.
