Broccoli and lettuce aren?t the only items with rising prices this year.

One of Australia?s fave pub staples, the chicken parmigiana, is also about to get more expensive.

      Why?

It?s all to do with profit.

Inghams - one the country?s top poultry processors - reported full-year profit of $35.1 million dollars in the 12 months to June 30, missing the average analyst estimate of $43.4 million.

As a result, the company flagged further price increases to chicken as it faces ongoing inflation and supply chain disruptions.

Australians eat almost 47kg of chicken each a year, making it the country?s most popular meat.

Retail chicken prices have already risen 4.18 per cent over the past 12 months so with further hikes on the way - we may see less chooks on the barbeque this summer.
