Walmart (NYSE:WMT) announced plans on Wednesday to construct five new high-tech warehouses across the United States, aiming to enhance and expedite the distribution of perishable goods to its network of 4,600 stores.

These state-of-the-art distribution centers (DCs) will be equipped with automation technology tailored for handling temperature-sensitive products such as milk, meat, and fresh produce.

The locations for the new facilities include Wellford, South Carolina, Belvidere, Illinois, Pilesgrove, New Jersey, and a planned center in Lancaster, Texas.

Walmart anticipates that these new DCs will create approximately 2,000 jobs, as per a recent blog post by the company.

By the end of fiscal year 2026, Walmart expects about 65% of its stores to be supported by automated systems.
