    US markets rallied; Apple dipped on Q4 results; Pfizer rallied on US FDA approval .

    The US markets rose slightly higher on Friday to close out a strong month as investor confidence was boosted by strong corporate quarterly earnings results, ignoring declines for Apple and Amazon amid supply chain disruptions hurting their respective financial results.

    The Dow Jones rose 0.25% to finish the trading day up 89 points to close at 35,820 points.

    The tech heavy NASDAQ rose 0.3% to finish the trading day up 50 points to close at 15,498 points with Tesla and Netflix gaining 3.43% and 2.41% respectively.

    One bitcoin is worth US$61,353 going into the Asian trading day.

    The Australian dollar is firm against the major currencies and is buying 75.15 US cents.

    Apple shares took a hit on Friday after the tech giant released its fourth quarter results, noting supply chain disruptions are affecting financial performance. For the period ended September 30, Apple still managed to report record revenue of US$83.4bn, up 29% YoY, EPS of US$1.24/share, but semiconductor issues and coronavirus-related delays dented Apple?s sales by around US$6bn according to CEO Tim Cook.

    Shares in biotech giant Pfizer rallied 1.3% on Friday after the US FDA authorised the Pfizer and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for administration in children aged 5-11. On Tuesday, advisors to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention will discuss the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine for children aged 5-11 to determine if they will give the final green light for the administration to begin.

    And a 17-year-old UK student who has been stuck in the US due to COVID travel restrictions, has spent her time in lockdown making an app called SignUp, that streams all movies in sign language for deaf viewers.
