U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer, House Majority Whip, has openly criticised the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its approach to cryptocurrency regulation.

He accuses the SEC of deliberately providing less clarity to the crypto market, thus doing a disservice to the U.S. capital markets.

Emmer referred to a 2018 speech by former SEC official William Hinman, which suggested that Ether (ETH) was not a security.

This clash highlights ongoing tensions between U.S. lawmakers and regulatory bodies regarding the approach to and clarity of cryptocurrency regulations.
