Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX ) has announced the upcoming launch of "Starting 5," a sports series showcasing behind-the-scenes moments from the National Basketball Association's (NBA) 2023-2024 season.
This initiative is part of the streaming giant's broader strategy to enhance viewership and advertising revenue through sports content.
"Starting 5" will offer an in-depth look at the lives of NBA stars Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum, spanning 10 episodes.
The series is set to premiere on October 9 and promises to give fans unprecedented access to these athletes' on and off-court experiences.
Produced by LeBron James' Uninterrupted, in collaboration with Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions and Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions, the series aims to replicate the success of Netflix's "Formula 1: Drive to Survive," which significantly boosted the global popularity of Formula 1.
Earlier this year, Netflix also inked new content deals with World Wrestling Entertainment and the National Football League, marking a significant expansion into live sports programming.
As streaming services continue to battle for viewers' attention, Netflix's move into sports content could play a crucial role in its growth strategy.
