Alaska Air Group gets DOT green light for Hawaiian merger

Transport and logistics

Alaska Air Group (NYSE:ALK) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has granted interim exemption approval for its proposed merger with Hawaiian Holdings.

This significant regulatory milestone brings the two companies closer to uniting their operations and expanding their reach in the aviation market.

The merger, initially agreed upon on December 2, 2023, will position Hawaiian Holdings as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alaska Air Group.

The combined entity aims to offer enhanced services, expanded route networks, and improved customer experiences for travelers across the Pacific and the mainland United States.

The transaction is expected to be finalized by September 18, 2024, subject to the satisfaction or waiver of the remaining conditions.

Both companies are working diligently to complete the necessary steps to ensure a smooth integration of operations.
