Today?s headlines were dominated by Anz?s move to acquire Suncorp, but there?s already a number of regional and smaller banks up in arms over the power the acquisition will add to Anz?s business.

Toowoomba-based Heritage Bank sees Anz?s proposed takeover of QLD-based Suncorp as a move that does little to promote fair competition in the market.

Suncorp investors are pleased with the acquisition news though, with Suncorp shares closing the day more than 6% higher.

Meanwhile health and safety product manufacturer Ansell also jumped more than 3% today after announcing a commitment to reach net zero by 2040.

A tech rally boosted the ASX to a 1.23% gain at the closing bell on Monday, with investors also buying up material, resources, metals and mining stocks today, with each of those sectors gaining more than 2% on the first day of trading this week.
