Tesla's (NASDAQ:TSLA) Model Y has been approved for the first time for government use in China, according to a report by Chinese media outlet the Paper.

This announcement marks Tesla's entry into a list that previously featured predominantly Chinese-branded electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids.

The inclusion of the Model Y, produced in Tesla's Shanghai facility, comes as part of the Jiangsu provincial government's recent publication of 56 batches of new energy vehicles intended for service use by party, government, and public organizations.

The decision follows the lifting of previous restrictions that barred Tesla cars from entering certain government and military complexes in China.
