Telecommunications giant Telefónica is adopting blockchain technology to boost its infrastructure efficiency and extend its reach in Mexico.

In collaboration with Nova Labs, creators of the Helium Network, Telefónica plans to use Helium Mobile Hotspots to broaden its coverage in Mexico City and Oaxaca, as announced on January 24th.

The Helium hotspots, or nodes, are designed to provide wireless network coverage for Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

By incorporating Helium's decentralised network, Telefónica can enhance its coverage, especially in more isolated areas.

The hotspots can validate wireless activity and offer network coverage.

Thus, Telefónica's alliance with the Helium Network signifies a leap towards adopting decentralised technology to increase its coverage and efficiency.
