After 16 months of testing, the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) has launched smart contracts on the Stellar network, marking a significant development in its technological capabilities.

This advancement was made possible by the Stellar network validators who successfully implemented the "Protocol 20" upgrade.

With this upgrade, Stellar has introduced new smart contract functionalities and has begun the phased introduction of its smart contract platform, Soroban.

The deployment of smart contracts on the Stellar network is seen by the SDF as the beginning of a "new era" for its technology stack.

These smart contracts aim to provide a more intuitive and user-friendly experience for developers, particularly those working with Rust and WASM (WebAssembly) languages.
