SingTel and private equity firm Brookfield's discussions regarding the latter's potential investment in Optus have reportedly concluded without reaching an agreement on terms.

Speculation had circulated about Brookfield's interest in either acquiring or taking a partial stake in Optus, despite attempts by SingTel and Optus to downplay expectations of a deal.

The potential deal could have brought in over $3 billion for SingTel through a 20% stake in Optus. However, negotiations reportedly broke down due to disagreement on pricing.

The discussions emerged after Optus faced challenges, including a nationwide outage in November last year and a cyber attack in 2022 that compromised the data of 10 million customers.
